View Full Version : 3rd Brake Light Fix

My 3rd brake light lens is all scratched up and hazed over which is common on fox-4 mustangs.

I said :smiley3: to the $100 replacement cost for a new one, so I spent $12 on a custom cut piece of vinyl to cover top side of the lens.

Here are before & after pictures.

However, I will say that I'm not too terribly impressed with this piece of vinyl.

It's very difficult to put on and impossible to get all the tiny bubbles out due to the imperfections of the lens surface not giving you a true flat surface.

It looks great as long as you don't stick your face up to it.

I think I'll keep this for a while and replace the whole lens assembly when I get the decklid filled and repainted.

took it off to clay bar & wax the decklid.

i put some nylon plugs in there for now to prevent water from getting into trunk.

i'm considering leaving it off for the time being so I can get the decklid repainted and install a new 3rd brake light assembly.

i don't know folks......i'm starting to like the look of the spoilerless decklid.

uh oh........i know shannon will be upset.

i just might keep it that way and have the holes filled and it repainted.

That and it has weight so you can be lighter (it all adds up). Hell remove the third brake light also like I did; though in your case you'd have to make a fill panel.
