Ok I want some serious answers about a mod motor in a fox body.
I was thinking a forged mod motor with a novi 2000 in a fox chassis.
list benefits and cons
give it will cost more but would it really cost alot more given the power potential of a mod motor.
lets say 600rwhp mod motor cost versus a 600rwhp 5.0 based motor that is built to hold that kind of power. (please take into consideration the price of the aftermarket 5.0 block that you would need)
lets exercise our brains on this one
Well Joe, I think it's a great idea mainly due the lighter weight of the fox chassis mustang coupe and the rpm potential of a 4V mod motor.
Oh, here is what a 93 fox body looks like with a 4.6 4V and a R-Trim.
Fox body + 4.6 Mod motor + R-Trim + 4.56 gears + Slicks = 8.80s in the 1/4 mile. Weeeeeee!!

wow, let me find my eyeballs cause they poped out of my head
tim you always come through with some kind of good research
now imagine a 5.4 dohc and a twin turbo setup.
LOL. Well if you start with just a rolling chassis I don't see the big difference, of course the mod motor is going to be more expensive, but I don't think it would be that much more considering the power you would get doing it that way. When you decide to do this, I would like to help you with the build.

well right now I'm looking at a mids 80s fox body coupe for $400 and I found a 4.6 sohc long block with computer and harness for $500 and I have a C-4 i want to build, plus A guy gave me a 8.8 out of a 92 fox body
I'm really thinking about it

muscle mustangs and fast fords mag. put a lightening motor in a fox coupe, and i think it ran low 11's stock

wow
If it were me on a budget and funds to do it.
I would put a a mach 1 crate motor in C-4 and about a 125 shot

but I will take what I can get
so fox body with a pi 4.6 sohc and a 125 shot should get me rolling for about 5000 maybe less provided I do most the work

sounds like a plan
Well to get to 600hp safely you would need a sportsman 5.0 block or a machined 4.6 block. Both after the machining of a 4.6 core or purchase of a 5.0 block will run around $900-1000. For rotating assembly I would be looking into a forged stroker kit in the 331 range for the 5.0 or 300 range for the 4.6. We all know the 4.6 stroker will run more money. Heads will be much cheaper for a 5.o as there is so much competitrion and the same holds true for intakes. So reall the only reson to build a 4.6 to race with is because you like to build 4.6s. If money is the driving force then you can't beat a 5.0 set up. I like 4.6 and 5.4s but I love to race cheaply so I followed my own advice as many know.

would the sportsman block hold to 600RWHP
or would you need to step it up a aftermarket block that will cost alot

i hear that.....
oh and joe, if you want any more info on that 4.6 notch i posted it's john mihovetz's old car. at it's best it ran 8.80s, but he moved up to pro 5.0 and built himself a 2002 cougar tube chassis race car with a twin turbo 4.6 4V that runs 6.80s in 1/4 at over 200 mph. yep, 1,600 hp with a 4.6 mod motor.
john mihovetz owns accufab or at least he used to.
would the sportsman block hold to 600RWHP
or would you need to step it up a aftermarket block that will cost alot
That isn't an easily answered question as I can make a stock block survive 600hp. How it is used determines it really. A sportsman block producing 600hp all the time will not have a long life. A girdle and lifter suport system won't even add that much strength. On the other hand if you build a 450hp engine and use nitrous at the track only to get 600hp it will last a very long time.
