88LSC
05-06-06, 07:38 PM
the HP increase in minimal...you would gain a few at high speeds but would not gain anything at lower speeds.....but they look so damn cool,I want to put one on my vert but since they dont make one for the fox body I would have to fab alot of the stuff

Tim
05-06-06, 09:13 PM
the hp increase would be minimal, but it would certaintly look cool.

i say go for it.

They are mostly for look's.They act like a CAI,so not much of a power increase. You use your stock hood and cut out the opening for the shaker.

They look great but you actually pick up no power on the dyno. As for on the highway it is believed to help with horsepower once you get above 90mph but is too hard to prove. You don't switch to a shaker hood for power really anyway as you can get more for less money anyway. They are as stated more for looks. A great look for sure but if it were me I'd get a Cobra R hood and put the rest of the money into something that would really add power.

Shane
05-10-06, 10:48 AM
I'm glad someone share's my view! How can you not like the cobra r hood??!?!?!

Pete
05-10-06, 11:08 AM
Well since the Cobra R hoos is on my car I may be biased.

Shane
05-10-06, 11:28 AM
maybe, but they still look awesome

Lucious Leah
05-10-06, 05:13 PM
I don't know I think they look ok on some cars, but I would not put one on my car, thats just my opion

I think I would just use the hood you already have and put the shaker part on it...but man I would be scared to cut a hole in my hood...thats just me though...

Trust me; sure. lol
actually if you get the CDC kit it's easy to cut the hood as they give you a template. Have installed the kit on 2 GT's and it went on perfect. Wouldn't do it with my new saw though.

Lucious Leah
05-12-06, 05:00 PM
I don't know if I could cut a hole in my hood I think I would just have to buy one with a hole already in it and that way if i got tired of the shaker I will still have my old hood!!

Ok time for my opinion. Mach 1s are great I see less of them than cobras and I have beat stock cobras before with just a few bolt ons. but in my opinion a mach one with the 03 cobra engine in it would be ideal.

to answer your question
I think the shaker would be cosmetic only. If any performance would be gained, it would be at high speeds like 90 mph or so.

Leah trade your car in on a mach 1
i will get burned by tim for sure with what I'm about to say
but i don't like your gt.
It looks good but the auto combined with the sohc just doesn't turn me on at all.
It revs slow and when you floor it, the sound of the exhaust reminds me of a pick up truck
A mach 1 auto might be better power wise. But learn to drive a stick you know how much fun they are.

SO if it were me I would get a mach 1 5 speed, in the light blue color and swap the exhaust from your current car to the mach 1. Say hello to about a 60rwhp gain and probably the same insurance rate. Also Get an SCT dyno tune while you are at it by MPH since they are up the road.

my response to this post is as follows.........

8.79@79.9
1.99 60ft.
600 ft. elevation
pump gas
stock 4r70w transmission
stock 11.5" converter 1,800 stall
launching at only 1,500 rpm

i wonder how all the stock 87 - 05 gts, cobras, and mach 1s i've beaten on the street and on the track would feel about your statement? they might have to disagree with you regarding my little junk mobile 2000 GT SOHC AUTOMATIC.

and just to be really nice i run on radials and worn out borrowed drag radials....if i was to put on a set of mickey thompsons then i would jut make it humiliating for the guys out there with there bad ass 32 valve dohc cobra's and mach 1s running 8.90s & 9.20s . and, of course, i get to listen to the usual after the race "i was spinning that's why you win all the time" bullshit even though i was spinning myself.

CrimsonGT

well tim i see your car runs good times, but it isn't the times that leave me disappointed with an auto GT. It is the thrill of shifting gears and tacking up 7000rpm. The thrill of having complete control over your shift points and such, the thrill of a 2nd gear burn out.

I would have loved to run my car at your track when I had it cause I know I would have ran faster. But I will give it to you your car runs fast compared to all the 5 speed GTs I have raced time wise.

You can't bench race my track against your track. You would be lucky to bust into the 8s. It is extremely hard for supercharged GTs and 03 cobras and mach 1s to reach 8.1s
just to give you an idea.

Lucious Leah
05-15-06, 06:48 AM
yeah I like sticks better than autos, but when I got my car I could not drive a stick that good so I went with the auto but if I could do it over again I would go with a stick, hands down!!

Pete
05-15-06, 08:23 AM
Well this is purely based on stock autos as my auto must be shifted manually and can barl off shifts harder than any manual I have had. My new auto will also allow me the luxury of launching my car at 6000rpm since it will have a trans brake.

Pete

Oh it will be and PA is crazy enough to supply a lifetime warranty on the Pro Comp trans I will be buying so if I blow it up they will fix it. My motor makes great power so now I just need the right trans to prove how fast I am.

I did not know an auto can be shifted manually! So why is it still considered an auto?

well i can understand that.....

my truck is a 5 speed and i enjoy driving it, but i still prefer the consistency of an auto at the track.

Sir I can understand the auto being superior on consistancy, I grew up watching my uncle bracket race 1/8th mile and he was very succesful with his power glide (solenoid shifted shifter at preset RPM)

Pete
05-16-06, 07:19 AM
I did not know an auto can be shifted manually! So why is it still considered an auto?
well for one; all autos can be shifted manually. Basically you are overriding the auto feature. On a racing transmission you take away the fluid circuits that let the transmission shift on it's own so that it doesn't burn itself up and it is also common to reverse the shift pattern (so that 1st gear is farthest from you). On top of that you can install a transmission brake so that you can bring the launch rpm's higher by clamping the trans in 1st and reverse at the same time. It's still an auto though as it uses a torque converter and not clutch set up.
Though we can really stir things up and mention a Bruno transmission. A Bruno is an automatic that replaces the toque converter with a clutch set up so that you only use the clutch on launch. Don't confuse it with a clutchless transmission or rock crusher that uses no synchros so you don't need the clutch to shift.
Still a lot more to it but I'll stop now as I don't need to write a book.
