You probably remember seeing this last week on all of our feeds:
http://blog.cjponyparts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Screen-shot-2012-02-09-at-4.04.07-PM.png
It caused a bit of a commotion. It left many of our customers quite curious and we received more than a few questions as to what we were up to.
We kept promising something very cool.
And now it’s time to unveil the first part of “Gotta Have Builds.”
We just ordered two brand-new 2013 Mustangs!

While these cars will start out similar, both will serve very different roles for CJ Pony Parts and will be set apart by their very different options and their very catchy names:

However, we invite you to toss in your two cents. What do you think we should be doing to our two new Mustangs? What do these cars gotta have?

After our big announcement on Monday (http://blog.cjponyparts.com/2012/02/gotta-have-builds-revealed/), it’s only fitting that this week’s video of the week showcases our upcoming Gotta Have Builds! The cars in the video are only mockups and are one of many possibilities of what Gotta Have It Race and Gotta Have It Street might end up looking like.
Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of design tools out there yet for the 2013 Mustangs, so we had to base our mockups on the 2010 GT500 model. They aren’t exactly the same, but are definitely very close! In fact, to make these designs and this awesome video happen, we found out that the video game Forza 4 was an easy tool to use. One of our designers spent many hours on Forza 4 (http://forzamotorsport.net/en-us/Default.aspx) to create these possible designs for our Gotta Have Builds (http://www.gottahavebuilds.com/) cars and today’s video.
Are you already a Forza 4 gamer on the Xbox 360? Starting today, you can download either of these two in-game designs for FREE! Just go to the Storefront in Forza 4, then Buy Designs (don’t worry, it’s still free) and search for the Manual Keyword “Gotta Have Builds”.
So, take a look and let us know your thoughts on these possible designs.
Enjoy your weekend!
Can't wait to the see the builds Steve!

While we’re waiting for our Gotta Have Builds 2013 Mustang GTs to hit the assembly line at the Ford Mustang plant, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share some of our plans for the cars, and let you know where we want to visit with them, so you can make plans to come check them out for yourself!
This week, our focus is on the Gotta Have It Race Mustang!
CJ Pony Service (http://www.cjponyservice.com/) is going to be working hard on Gotta Have It Race to reach their goal of having the fastest naturally aspirated 5.0 Mustangs on the drag strip!
To start, we’ll be hitting the dyno at In Tune Autoworks (http://www.intuneautoworks.com/home/), our go-to dyno shop for over a year, just down the road from CJ’s. In Tune Autoworks will be using a Mustang Dyno during testing, which is known to record power readings 10-15% lower than a Dynojet.
Once our baseline dyno is done, Gotta Have It Race will be heading down to the drag strip at Cecil County Dragway (http://www.cecilcountydragway.com/), where Bill Tumas, our CJ Pony Service Manager, runs his personal Mustangs. We are hoping the car is built and delivered to CJ’s before April 21st, so it can be entered in the JLP Shootout at the Cecil County Dragway. That event will allow us to get a good baseline for the car and see what our future competition will be like.
After our baseline runs at the JLP Shootout, we plan to enter the Super Stang class at the MIR NMRA event in Maryland (http://www.nmradigital.com/2012_event_schedule/mechanicsville_md_preview/) on May 4-6th, and the Fun Ford Weekend at the Maple Grove Raceway (http://www.maplegroveraceway.com/blog/) on August 17-18. We’re also considering a number of other events that are within a 3-4 hour range of CJ’s and have a good class for our Gotta Have It Race to enter. You might also see us in the CJ Pony Parts – Rally Dixie 2012 (http://blog.cjponyparts.com/2011/09/announcing-the-2012-rally-dixie/) in June or on The Hot Rod Power Tour (http://www.hotrod.com/powertour/hrdp_2012_hot_rod_power_tour_locations_dates_regis tration/).
In terms of drag times, our first goal is to break the stock intake to pan record, which currently stands at 11.37@118 (and was achieved with an automatic Mustang). Once that’s been beaten, we’re gunning for the current stock longblock naturally aspirated record of 11.02@122, which was achieved on a 6-speed Mustang, like Gotta Have It Race. Both of those records are current as posted on the S197 Forum (http://www.s197forum.com/).
Will you be coming out to see Gotta Have It Race at the track, or do you think your Mustang has what it takes to beat it?
Take our poll below and let us know what you think our best stock time will be the first time out!

1/4 mile time will be for

A Closer Look at Gotta Have It Street!
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3790/gottahaveitstreetprevie.jpg
As we mentioned in last week’s closer look at Gotta Have It Race, we are going to follow up this week with a closer look at Gotta Have It Street!
Gotta Have It Street is going to blow your mind!
We’re envisioning a head turning, jaw dropping Mustang that performs as good as it looks.
Gotta Have It Street is going to be getting tons of awesome parts–the same ones you’re buying for your Mustang! Our goal with Gotta Have it Street is to have a Mustang that not only goes fast, but also provides that extra ‘flash’ you need at car shows. Here’s a few of the upgrades we are thinking about working on first:
Lowering the car and putting it on some big, aggressive wheels and tires
A nice, loud exhaust
A rear spoiler
A new grille
A SCT X3 Power Flash Computer Programmer (http://www.cjponyparts.com/SCT-COMPUTER-PROGRAMMER-XCALIBRATOR-3-1996-2011/p/XCAL3/)
An intake
Interior upgrades
We plan for Gotta Have It Street to be busy traveling over the next few months! You’ll definitely see the car at the All-Ford Nationals in Carlisle (http://www.carlisleevents.com/events/ford-nationals/) and at Mustang Week in Myrtle Beach (http://www.mustangweek.com/), plus we have plans to visit several local car shows, cruises and autocross events. Both Gotta Have it Street and Gotta Have It Race will also be traveling to the MIR NMRA event in Maryland (http://www.nmradigital.com/2012_event_schedule/mechanicsville_md_preview/) and Fun Ford Weekends (http://funfordweekend.com/). You might even see Gotta Have it Street at an open track event or two at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia (http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/) or the Pocono Raceway (http://www.poconoraceway.com/). You gotta come see it this summer!
We’re getting closer and closer to Ford building our Gotta Have It Race and Gotta Have It Street. We’re expecting our VINs any day now, and you’ll be the first to know when we get them. Meanwhile, our excitement builds every day, especially when we see pictures like this–do you see one of our Gotta Have Builds (http://www.gottahavebuilds.com/)?
http://blog.cjponyparts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/attachment.jpg
Are you coming to see Gotta Have It Street this summer? Where do you want to see us this year?
Take our poll below and let us know what the first part’s gotta be for Gotta Have It Street!

For the gotta have it "RACE", I would like to see as much cubic inches as you can stuff into it, ported heads, custom grind camshafts, solid adjustable lash adjusters, possible Jesel valvetrain, Ferrea valves, custom sheet metal intake (doubts on the intake happening) and American Racing Headers 1 7/8 longtubes, staying naturally aspirated OR adding a blower on top (roots style, no turbo's or centrifugal superchargers and please, no nitrous) with nothing "special" that the common enthusiast won't mess with (no vacuum pump or dry sump oiling system) and a clutch to handle the power while keeping the factory transmission, switching to a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft, adding a detroit truetrac to the rearend with some forged moser axles and 4.10 or 4.30 gears with some 28"x10.5x (whatever rim size) Hoosier slicks mounted on some Prostars front and back, plus whatever K member you can get up front to cut weight and replace the weak stamped steel rear control arms. Depending on the ultimate time of the car, additional safety equipment and of course, a full cage.
Hell, I would do the headporting for free so long as my name was "on the heads" and I got to be involved in the engine building process just to verify everything is "spot on" to make power and stay together. Nobody likes cleaning up fluids off the track from a blow up! Plus, I haven't had any failures yet and want to keep it that way.

I can also digitize that port configuration and work some deal to split profits on the cnc program to offer that cnc ported head like yours as a "stage 3" head and dial it back for a "stage 2" port.

Get Ready! Gotta Have It Street is Almost Here!
We’ve been getting excited about our Gotta Have Builds (http://www.gottahavebuilds.com/) Mustangs for the last two months, ever since we placed the orders (http://blog.cjponyparts.com/2012/02/gotta-have-builds-revealed/). Since then, we’ve showed off our proposed designs (http://blog.cjponyparts.com/2012/02/video-of-the-week-gotta-have-builds/) for both cars, we’ve taken a closer look at Gotta Have It Race (http://blog.cjponyparts.com/2012/02/a-closer-look-at-gotta-have-it-race/) and Gotta Have It Street (http://blog.cjponyparts.com/2012/03/a-closer-look-at-gotta-have-it-street/), and even invited you to guess when the first car is going to arrive at CJ’s.

Our dealership, Hoffman Ford of Harrisburg, PA.
Well, the wait is almost over! We’ve received word from our friends at Hoffman Ford (http://www.hoffmanford.com/) in Harrisburg that Gotta Have It Street is estimated to arrive THIS SATURDAY, April 14!
With the latest arrival estimation for the upcoming weekend, you’ll want to keep an eye on CJ Pony Parts’ pages on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/cjponyparts), Google Plus (https://plus.google.com/u/1/b/116534413602950746084/116534413602950746084/posts), and Twitter (https://twitter.com/cjponyparts). The delivery–with pictures–will be posted there, with a full update coming on our blog early next week, including a photo shoot!
Once Gotta Have It Street arrives, we’re getting right down to work. We have quite a few parts ready for installation, with more arriving soon. Here are a few of the vendors who have already provided parts for Gotta Have It Street:

Gotta Have It Builds At NMRA Ford Nationals - YouTube
After so much anticipation over the past few weeks, this past weekend, May 4-6, the CJ Pony Parts team was finally able to get Gotta Have It Race and Gotta Have It Street on the drag strip!
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-hrbeBlA4DFA/T6qU47GaSdI/AAAAAAAAAEo/oQsa9v5Wmm4/s800/gasstreet.jpg
Gotta Have It Street, making its way to Harrisburg.
Before we get into the events on the track, though, Gotta Have It Street finally arrived on Friday, May 4 after quite an adventure to get it here. Throughout the previous week, the CJ’s team had been in constant contact with Hoffman Ford (http://www.hoffmanford.com/), trying to make sure Gotta Have It Street arrived in time to make the trip to the track over the weekend. On Wednesday, we were put in touch with a regional Ford representative, who found Gotta Have It Street on a train heading to Philadelphia. Our friends at Hoffman Ford contacted a colleague at a dealership near the rail yard, who contacted an employee at the rail yard. He was able to secure Gotta Have It Street for us, once it was unloaded from the train.
Now that we knew where it was, we needed to pick up Gotta Have It Street and get it to the track! Hoffman Ford helped with that, too, by securing permission for us to drive it from Philadelphia to Harrisburg, then sending one of their staff members to drive our CJ’s team member to Philadelphia. They left Hoffman’s around noon on Friday, picked up the car and made it back to Harrisburg around 4:30 p.m. After that, Gotta Have It Street just needed to be prepped and inspected, then it was cleared to head to the track! It was quite an adventure, but we are thankful to all who were involved, especially Hoffman Ford, for their work in delivering Gotta Have It Street!
Now onto the weekend at the track!

Gotta Have It Race is about to start a pass on the drag strip.
After a late night Thursday that was spent detailing Gotta Have It Race and our 2011 Ford Raptor, both left on Friday morning for the 12th annual NMRA Ford Nationals at the Maryland International Speedway (http://www.nmradigital.com/2012_event_schedule/mechanicsville_md_preview/)! After arriving around 1:00 p.m., both vehicles got registered and passed the tech inspection. For the weekend’s races, both Gotta Have Builds (http://www.gottahavebuilds.com/) Mustangs were registered in the Roush Super Stang class, while the Raptor was in the Detroit Locker Truck & Lightning class.
Gotta Have It Race made its first pass later in the afternoon, on a hot and humid day with a corrected density altitude (DA) of 1872 feet. For the first pass, the car was completely stock, aside from the Barton Short Throw Shifter (http://www.cjponyparts.com/barton-short-throw-shifter-v6-gt-boss-2011-2013/p/MS41/). On stock tires, Gotta Have It Race’s best run was 13.20 @ 108 mph.
Later that evening, the Race Star Industries Dark Star 17″ x 4.5″ front drag wheels (http://www.cjponyparts.com/race-star-industries-wheel-dark-star-black-chrome-direct-drill-17x45-1965-2013/p/W515/) and Dark Star 15″ x 10″ rear drag wheels (http://www.cjponyparts.com/race-star-industries-wheel-dark-star-black-chrome-direct-drill-15x10-2005-2013/p/W514/) and Mickey Thompson ET Street and M&H Front Runner tires (http://www.cjponyparts.com/mandh-racemaster-tire-front-runner-185-55-17-drag-tire/p/MH02/) were installed. The weather cooled into the 60s with the corrected DA dropping to 1081 feet. With both the weather and tire changes, Gotta Have It Race did much better. It’s quickest pass was 12.79 @ 107.1 mph, though it did go a little faster on a 12.84 @ 108.77 mph pass. During the evening, we found that we were hitting the rev limiter in 4th gear, 100 feet before the finish line which cost us some time.
After the evening passes, Gotta Have It Street arrived.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-51IPCkX0rxc/T6qU6RKsBKI/AAAAAAAAAFI/j5sa7h5uiRM/s800/120505_Race_FirstRace_182.jpg
The first picture of both Gotta Have Builds together!
The next morning, we made one minor modification to Gotta Have It Race: Using an SCT iTSX tuner (http://www.cjponyparts.com/sct-itsx-wireless-tuning-programmer-with-custom-tune-1996-2012/p/ITSX/), the rev limiter was raised from 7000 RPMs to 7500 RPMs. No other changes were made to the car. Gotta Have It Street also had to have the Race Star Industries Dark Star 17″x4.5″ front wheels (http://www.cjponyparts.com/race-star-industries-wheel-dark-star-black-chrome-direct-drill-17x45-1965-2013/p/W515/) and Dark Star 17″x9.5″ rear wheels (http://www.cjponyparts.com/race-star-industries-wheel-dark-star-black-chrome-direct-drill-17x95-2005-2013/p/W517/) with 275/40-17 BF Goodrich Drag Radials quickly installed. Then, Gotta Have It Street needed to be run through track registration and the tech inspection. After all that, racing could begin for the day!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-FWTYz08C4qQ/T6qU5r2JI1I/AAAAAAAAAE4/6bQVVLYOQQw/s800/120505_Race_FirstRace_126.jpg
Gotta Have It Street is about to start a pass on the drag strip.
Gotta Have It Race improved on the times from the day before significantly, with the best pass being 12.39 @ 111.97 mph. Gotta Have It Street came out of the gate strong for an automatic Mustang, with the best pass being a 12.93 @ 109.04, though the team felt that the low RPM shifts (around 6500 RPMs) of the automatic were robbing tenths of seconds off the time. Finally, the Raptor ran a 15.62 @ 89 mph, which was pretty good considering its massive size.
On the final day of racing, the weather was perfect in the low 60s with low humidity and a corrected DA of 212 feet. All three CJ’s vehicles competed in their first round of competition and were eliminated, though they all recorded decent times. The Raptor went first and ran a 15.73 @ 87 mph, but lost to an experienced racer who finished 7th in the class the previous year. Gotta Have It Race went next and ran a 12.22 @ 109.43 mph, while Gotta Have It Street ran a 12.895 @ 104 mph, though the driver got off the throttle a little early to avoid breaking out, which cost him two tenths of a second.
With everyone being eliminated, Gotta Have It Race made a few more passes to get a better time. That afternoon, we ran a 12.08 @ 111.29 mph, our best pass of the weekend! Check out the video of our fastest pass! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glZJRUXNhtA&feature=youtu.be)
Overall, we’re very pleased with the performance of all three CJ’s vehicles, especially Gotta Have It Race’s fast time on Sunday. More races are coming up soon, so keep checking back!
