How to install an aftermarket deck while utilizing the stock Mach 460 Amps & Speakers. This is a fairly simple install if you take your time and do it right. It took me about 1 hour from beginning to end.

Note: 2003 & up models may need a FDK9 car stereo wiring harness.

#1 - You will need a SCOSCHE OEA-4 FACTORY AMP INTERFACE ADAPTER w/OEA-4 HARNESS. A SCOSCHE FAI-3A will also work in most cases.

#2 - You will need a 5 Volt Fixed Voltage Regulator (Radio Shack #276-1770) to eliminate amplifier pop when you turn the system on. You will install this between the deck and the scosche adapter on the Amp REM Wire (Amp Remote Turn-on wire it's usually blue or blue/white - some brands may vary) Why: Because the Ford Mach deck in most cases uses a 5V amp signaling voltage to turn on the amps and most the aftermarket decks use a 12V amp signaling voltage and that will cause that annoying pop when you turn on the deck.

#3 - You will need to properly adjust the output level gain controls after the install to get it to sound right. This is an important step, so take your time and do it right. Note: There will not be a great deal of room to work with inside that dash recess after installing the scosche adapter+deck. So, becareful and don't just force it back when mounting the deck+adapter.

#4 - I have included 2 screenshots to better facilitate the intallation process.

1st screenshot is a wiring illustration.

2nd screeshot is a how to adjust the output level & wire color code chart.

3rd screenshot is a wiring how to for the voltage regulator.

LOL I already have an after market CD player in the stang. I also had a rockford punch amp and three 10 inch MTX subs. I took them out cause I rarely turned them on anymore adn they were just slowing me down, but its a good write up and Im sure someone will find it useful.

I have a Sony X-plode Face 45x5 watts with 250watt Boss *not Bose* 3 1/4 in the front dash ,5'' 1/4 in the doors and 6x8 3 ways in the back. With two Rockford Fosgate 10'' subs and a fosgate 401s amp that peaks a 1200 watts. But i htink i have it only putting out 300 to each channle because of the ohms and stuff, dunno. Let Bestbuy hook it up they did a pretty good job, not the best but it saved me time.

I want to keep my car as close to stock as possible cosmetically for $$ value reasons later on down the road. The 40th came with the Mach 460 system. I got a quote on upgrading it to the Mach 1000 - upgrade was a Joke since it was a full Mach 1000 system! - and ditched that idea. My Sony XPlod deck went with the '02 GT when I sold it but I kept the Lanzar amp, Rio Empeg 30GB mp3 player and Kenwood bass tube (10") with separate amp.

How can I splice all that into the existing Mach 460 without toasting it? Can it be done at all? I'd probably just take it to Mobile Sound systems here in town but I don't want them jacking with this car if it can't be done.

Looking for advice/feedback/suggestions...

how bout them pics??

I just went and bought everything needed and will be doing the install tomorrow....interested in how this regulator wires up.....I assume I'll be soldering it? ...then what? wrapping it in elect. tape?

alson...anyone w a 94-98....crutchfield shows this part: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-60MMYdhONeU/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=120305613 ....is it necessary? I cant find it anywhere locally :(

i'll try and dig up my screenshots.......i changed servers and they are currently MIA.

regarding the in line voltage regulator.......you will solder it and then use a heat sink to insulate the solder point and to give a clean appearance.

alright...wiring this up now.....one more question....theres 3 prongs on the regulator, an input, a ground, and an output....do i need to ground it too??

absolutely!

i don't know what type/brand regulator you have, but on the one i used from radio shack you have an input (left) ground (center) output (right).

make sure you know which terminals are what when you wire it up.

make a clean solder point on each terminal then insulate it with a heat sink.

take your time and do it right......if you do you won't ever have to mess with it again.

and take your sweet ass time adjusting the gain on the scosche adapter.

don't rush that part.

alrighty then....almost ready...lol....that brings up one more question....will this be a ground, directly to the chassis, by itself? or can I splice it into the stereo ground / black wire?

thanks for all your help btw...this has by far been the best write up I have found online

the voltage regulator should on a chassis ground.

you will find a couple of dash bolts you throw a ring terminal connector on the the bolt and crimp in the ground wire or whatever is easier for you.

i grounded mine to a bolt on a ****l dash support bracket right behind the deck.
