i recently bought my first mustang a 03 GT conv. i know it is a 4.6, but what size block is that in CI. also how can you tell if it is the high output motor. i'm getting ready to start buying some parts to improve performance, but want to make sure i'm getting the right stuff
i also just bought a 03 gt. i am going to buy a jlt cold air intake next week for my first upgrade

4.6 = 281 CI

the 4.6 is a 281ci motor. and since you have the 03 you have the more powerful motor, the 96-98 GT's were rated at 220hp, after 99 they changed the cylinder heads, upping the power to 260hp.

I thought the '96-'98's were rated at 215hp?

Well they are rated at both, depending on what month yours was produced..i think it went up to 220 sometime in October of 97

You can find a lot of specs and other info on the 2003's here (http://www.mustangspecs.com/years/03.shtml).
What color did you get? You can see mine here (http://mustangmafia.com/forum/vbgarage.php?do=view&id=1454).

96-97 = 215 HP
98 = 225 HP same as the 5.0
On the nPI cars, a PI intake/cam swap will put you quite a bit closer to the 260 HP the 99+ cars make. The heads aren't as much of a bottleneck as they're made out to be.

The main reason people like doing the PI swap is because the PI heads on the NPI block will raise the compression ratio as well as you get the better PI heads and intake. My buddy did a PI swap on his old 98 and installed VT stage 1 cams, longtubes and the heads/intake and put down 260+ through an automatic. He picked up like 70hp over stock.

Also the PI heads flow a lot better than the NPI.

I believe 05+ are rated 300hp. And pretty much any rating published by Ford, like the ones mentioned, are at the flywheel, not RWHP.
